NUTRITION
An individuals diet can be a very important aspect of their overall health. During the treatment of an injury, whether it is osseous (bone), muscular or ligamentous, nutritional supplementation can hasten the recovery process. Dr. Wright can give instructions to augment treatment, eliminate aggravatory habits or design a diet and exercise plan for each individual patient. Today's "fad" diets can allow a patient to eliminate some weight and/or girth, but inevitably the dieter will almost always falter and binge eat, returning to their original weight or worse. It is important to find a diet and exercise plan, which the patient can comfortably maintain for the rest of their life. First of all, the diet must be balanced, with equal parts protein and carbohydrate. It is essential to include an exercise program, which includes aerobic (walking, running, Stairmaster, etc.) and weight training. The muscles are the "furnaces" that burn calories and are very important in maintaining your ideal fitness level. When holidays or winter months approach, either reduce your serving size or increase your exercise periods. The individual who eats well-balanced meals doesn't need supplements or vitamins and minerals to stay at peak performance levels. It is imperative that the individual assume responsibility for his/her eating habits and weekly exercise regimens. This will assure added stability, higher resistance to disease and a greater probability of an enjoyable, fit lifestyle. |
